SUMMER 1995

Above is a picture of our first attempt at a dug out liner pond. The pond in this picture is 14' wide by 20' long with a depth at one end of 12" to a depth at the other end of 3.5'. Along the rear wall by the fence we built a ledde and erected a rock wall on the ledge to hold back the earth due to the difference in elevation. At one end and the front side we dug out ledges to allow for plants to be placed on them. In the picture visable through the water is a terra cotta chimney thimble that we placed in the deep end for the fish to hide in. The plants in the water are the water hyacynths which eventually completly covers the water surface both acting as cover for the fish food for the fish and temperture control for the water during the hot summer months. It also controls the growh of algae.
